The Institute of Industrial Skills Development (IISD), a key subsidiary of the Africa Development Council (ADC), was established as ADC’s professional training unit to address the continent’s pressing industrial skills gap. Since its inception, IISD has positioned itself as a strategic enabler of Africa’s workforce development, bridging education, industry, and innovation to drive sustainable industrialization.

Strategic Objectives

Core Focus & Mandate

IISD designs and delivers specialized training programs in:

Beneficiaries include engineers, architects, welders, safety officers, radiation workers, artisans, technical university graduates, and professionals across the oil & gas, mining, automobile, nuclear, telecom, and manufacturing industries. Through these interventions, IISD contributes directly to Africa’s industrial transformation and workforce readiness.

Training Programs & Services

IISD training programs combine hands-on workshops, classroom instruction, field demonstrations, and certification. Many courses are delivered in collaboration with the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Ghana Welding Bureau (GWB), and the National Nuclear Research Institute (NNRI) of GAEC, ensuring international alignment and accreditation (including IIW Welding & NDT certifications).

Upcoming flagship workshops (October 2025, Accra) will provide CPD-certified training for radiation workers, engineers, welders, and safety managers, with 9 CPD hours awarded per module. Past participants highlight IISD’s practical, industry-focused approach as a career-transforming experience.

IISD has signed several key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)
